Peter Malarkey

Fine Art / Painting Conservation

Peter Malarkey divides his professional time between two mutually exclusive but complimentary concerns: He is a practicing painter, involved in all aspects of the creative process, and he is a fine art conservator, focused primarily on paintings.

Fine Art

Peter has been drawing from an early age and began painting in 1982. Most work consists of landscapes and cityscapes focusing on the present places, culture and climate of the Pacific Northwest. The portfolio page of this site presents a recent series of oil paintings about the Elwha River, on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. The removal of two longstanding dams there is the basis of an unprecedented Federal environmental restoration project. It is a turning point in the history of the Elwha valley, and this fact motivated Peter to start a painted record of the landscapes,

or museums, private owners, corporate and government clients. Peter has worked extensively on a range of painted materials including oil paintings and acrylic paintings, murals, polychrome sculpture, and painted furniture. Other services include condition assessments, documentation and preservation consultation. Through years working in diverse architectural contexts, Peter forms effective collaborations among associated conservators, preservation personnel, architects, framers and contractors.
structures, and human activities related to this longterm disassembly and restoration project. The dam removals begin September 17, 2011.

The fourteen paintings will be exhibited September 1 – 30, 2011, in downtown Port Angeles. This exhibition was organized with participation of The Landing Building, Port Angeles Fine Art Center, Olympic National Park, and photographer Harry von Stark.
